Our Therapy Dog in Training
Meet Chuck
Say hello to Chuck! Dr. Buckingham adopted Chuck from Austin Pets Alive! in July 2026 when he was just two months old. Listed as a Labrador Retriever mix, Chuck quickly stole everyone’s hearts with his gentle personality, calm demeanor, and love for people. From the moment he joined our family, it was clear he had a special gift for bringing comfort to those around him.
Chuck is currently completing his therapy dog training through Dog Training Elite and is working toward becoming a certified therapy dog. Once he has completed his training and certification, Chuck will be able to accompany patients during their dental visits, helping create a more relaxed and comfortable experience.
Whether you experience dental anxiety, have a child who feels nervous about visiting the dentist, or simply enjoy the calming presence of a friendly dog, Chuck will be here to help make your visit a little brighter. We can’t wait to introduce him to our patients and make him part of the compassionate care Buckingham Dental is known for.
Why Bring a Therapy Dog Into a Dental Office?
At Buckingham Dental, we understand that visiting the dentist can feel stressful for some patients. Dental anxiety can affect both children and adults, especially during unfamiliar, lengthy, or more involved procedures.
A trained therapy dog can provide a calm and reassuring presence that helps patients feel more comfortable in the dental environment. Chuck’s role will be to offer companionship and emotional support while our team continues providing attentive, patient-focused dental care.
A Comforting Presence for Our Patients
Chuck may be especially helpful for:
- Patients who experience dental anxiety
- Children who feel nervous about dental visits
- Patients undergoing longer procedures
- Anyone who feels more relaxed around dogs
- Patients who would simply enjoy some extra companionship

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Chuck already a certified therapy dog?
Not yet. Chuck is currently completing professional training through Dog Training Elite and working toward certification. He will begin assisting eligible patients only after completing his training and passing the required evaluations.
What kind of dog is Chuck?
Chuck was listed as a Labrador Retriever mix when Dr. Buckingham adopted him from Austin Pets Alive! His gentle nature, friendly personality, and love for people made him a wonderful candidate for therapy dog training.
Can I request Chuck during my appointment?
Once Chuck is certified and begins working in the office, patients may be able to request his company during certain appointments. His availability will depend on the type of treatment, patient needs, and his schedule.
Will Chuck be in the treatment room?
After he completes his certification, Chuck may accompany eligible patients in the treatment room when appropriate. Our team will evaluate each situation to make sure the experience is safe and comfortable for everyone.
Can Chuck help children who are nervous about the dentist?
That is one of the goals of his training. Chuck’s calm and friendly presence may help children feel more at ease and create a more positive association with dental visits.
What if I am allergic to or uncomfortable around dogs?
Patient comfort will always come first. Chuck will not interact with patients who have allergies, fears, or simply prefer not to be around dogs, and accommodations will be made to keep him away from those patients.
Will Chuck be at every appointment?
No. Chuck’s presence will depend on his schedule, the type of appointment, and whether having him nearby is appropriate for the patient and treatment being provided.
How will Buckingham Dental maintain cleanliness and safety?
Chuck will complete professional training before interacting with patients, and the practice will follow established cleanliness, behavioral, and safety procedures whenever he is present in the office.
